MELD

Terms of Service

Last updated 4 September 2026

1. What these terms cover

These terms cover everything at meldliveapp.com operated by MELD ("we", "us"): MELD Master, the browser mastering tool; MELD Jam, the live playing beta; MELD Studio, the browser recorder; MELD Social, the feed and the messaging, friends and profiles that go with it; and the beta and updates sign-up forms. "You" means anyone using them.

Using any part of the site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

2. MELD Master

MELD Master masters audio entirely inside your browser. Your file is read by the page, processed on your own machine, and the result is saved by your browser. It is not uploaded to us, and there is no server that receives it.

Your first render is free and needs no account. After that the page asks you to wait for accounts to open, which are not available yet. This is a prompt in your own browser, not a lock: clearing your browser data or using a private window resets it, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

We may introduce paid rendering later; if we do, the page will say so before anything is charged or sent anywhere.

You keep every right in the audio you master. We claim nothing in it, and we never hear it.

Mastering changes a recording. Keep your original file — we cannot recover it for you, because we never had it.

3. MELD Jam beta

MELD Jam connects two musicians for a live audio session in the browser. It offered video until 4 September 2026; the camera was removed and a jam now uses your microphone only. It is open to anyone and needs no key and no account — choose an instrument, choose who you want to find, and play.

Being a beta, it may be interrupted, changed or taken down without notice. Do not rely on it for anything that matters — a paid performance, a session you are being paid for, or anything you cannot afford to lose.

Sessions are limited to three minutes and connect the two browsers directly wherever possible. We do not record, listen to, or store your audio — including when the two of you have switched recording on, which happens entirely in your own browsers and never reaches us. How the connection is made, and the third parties necessarily involved in making it, are described in the Privacy Policy.

There is no camera in a jam. Your browser asks permission for the microphone before a session starts, and you can refuse or revoke it. Where the two networks will not allow a direct connection the audio is carried through a relay, encrypted; the Privacy Policy names the provider and says what it does and does not do with it.

You are matched with strangers. You are responsible for how you behave in a session, and you must not use MELD Jam to harass, threaten, record without consent, or expose anyone to sexual or violent content. We can revoke a key without warning or explanation.

You must hold the rights to any music you play. You are responsible for that, not us.

4. MELD Studio

MELD Studio records from your microphone and exports audio entirely inside your browser. Nothing you record is uploaded by recording it, so a take is not ours to lose, read, or hand to anyone.

A take is now kept in your browser's own storage rather than only in the tab, which is what lets a recording move between MELD Studio, MELD Master and a post without being uploaded. It survives a reload. It is still on your machine and nowhere else: clearing your browser's data for this site deletes it, and we cannot get it back for you, because we never had it. Export anything you would be sorry to lose.

You keep every right in what you record. We claim no licence over it unless you post it, and section 5 says exactly what that licence is and is not.

5. MELD Social: posting, and what you licence us to do

MELD Social is the feed, your profile, your friends, and the messages between you. It needs an account.

Posting a track uploads that recording to us. It is the only thing MELD uploads in the ordinary course of using it, and it is the only reason a post can be played by anybody other than you. Mastering, recording and jamming are unchanged and still never upload anything. The Studio plan's Save to cloud and Share by link also upload, on your press of those buttons; the licence below covers a shared mix the same way it covers a post.

Your profile shows your connections to you, and shared ones to others. On your own profile you see your connections by name. On somebody else's, if you are signed in, you see the people you both know — which can only be people you are already connected to. Nobody is shown a list of your connections, and you are not shown a list of theirs. The number of connections an account has is visible on the profile, as it always has been.

You keep every right in the music you post. We claim no ownership of it. To be able to show a post at all we need your permission to do the specific things showing it requires, so by posting a track you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store that recording, to change its format or size so that it can be sent over a network, and to transmit it to the people you have allowed to see the post. That is the whole of it. It does not let us sell your music, license it to anybody else, put it in an advertisement, train anything on it, or use it outside MELD. It lasts only as long as the post: set the post to private and we stop serving it at once, and delete the post and the file goes with it.

Who can hear a post is decided per post — public, friends only, or private — and checked every time somebody presses play, not once when they loaded the page. Narrowing a post takes effect immediately, including for anybody who kept a link.

You can delete a post. Delete is on your own posts in the feed and takes two presses, because it cannot be undone. It removes the row and the stored audio together — not one and then the other. Making a post private is the softer option: it stops anybody else seeing or hearing it while the post stays yours.

Post only what is yours to post. You must hold the rights to the music in anything you upload. Posting somebody else's recording, or somebody else's work under your own name, is a misuse of the feed and we will remove it.

Reposting passes on somebody else's post; it does not copy it. Only a post its author has made public can be reposted, and a repost points at the original rather than taking a copy of the recording. The author keeps every right in it and keeps control of it: if they later narrow the post to friends, make it private, or delete it, every repost of it stops working at that moment. You are not licensing us anything by reposting, and you are not claiming the music — the card names whoever made it.

Likes and comments are yours and you can remove them. You can delete your own comment anywhere, and the person whose post it is on can delete any comment on their own post. Deleting a post deletes its likes and comments with it. A comment must follow the same rule as a post: do not put somebody else's work, or anything you would not stand behind, under someone's music.

We count plays, not listeners. A post shows how many times it has been played. We do not record who played it and we do not build a history of what anybody listened to.

Messages are private between the people in them, but they are not end-to-end encrypted and we are technically able to read them. We do not do so as a matter of course. Do not use MELD to send anything you would need cryptographic secrecy for.

Blocking somebody stops their messages, their jam invites and the typing signal in both directions.

6. Accounts

You do not need an account to record, export, or use MELD Master. An account exists so that work can follow you once features that require it are built.

You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself, and for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has it. We cannot recover a password for you — we do not store one, only a value derived from it that cannot be reversed. One person, one account; do not share a login.

You may close your account at any time by writing to us, and we will delete the record. We may close an account that is being used to break section 9.

7. Plans and payment

Nothing on MELD Studio is on sale at the time of writing. Prices are published on the plans page so you can see where this is going, but no subscription can be started, no card is asked for, and the server refuses any attempt to begin one.

Some features are already marked for paid plans, and are locked until those plans open. This section used to say that everything the Studio does is free, and that was not accurate: recording, playback, metering, trimming, fading, normalising, exporting a WAV and the whole of MELD Master are free and will stay free, but multitrack, the effects, the repair tools, the instruments and cloud save are held for plans that are not on sale yet. You will see them in the Studio, and clicking one tells you which plan it belongs to and that it cannot be bought today. Nothing about that arrangement charges you or asks for a card — it means those parts are not usable yet, not that they are free.

If and when paid plans open, they will be monthly and cancellable at any time, they will be charged through a payment processor that handles card details so we never see them, and we will not begin charging for a feature before it works. Nothing in this section is a promise that any particular feature will ship.

8. Sign-up forms

You may give us an email address to hear about updates. Give an address you control. Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and we do not sell or rent addresses to anyone.

Creating an account puts your address on that list too. The sign-up form says so before you create the account. Unsubscribing is one click from any email, it does not affect your account, and once you have unsubscribed making another account does not put you back on.

Access keys were issued while MELD Jam was invite only. Any key you already hold still works, and none is needed any more.

9. Acceptable use

We may withdraw access from anyone doing these things.

10. No warranty

Everything here is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, that a master will meet any particular standard, or that MELD Jam will connect you to anyone.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MELD is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, audio or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the site — including a failed master, a lost or altered recording, a session that did not connect, or anything said or done by another person in a session.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Third-party services

The site depends on services we do not control — hosting, email delivery, and the connection services MELD Jam needs. They are listed in the Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions, and their own terms govern their services.

13. Changes and withdrawal

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site, including the MELD Jam beta, at any time. These terms may be updated; the date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
